Pasieka Island
Pasieka Island in Opole is a unique, natural island that was formed after the great flood in 1600, located picturesque between the Oder River and its branch – Młynówka. Its northern part hides a history dating back to the Middle Ages, when the Ostrówek stronghold existed here. It was here that for centuries the Piast castle stood, of which the only remaining part today is the mighty Piast Tower.
Although the castle was dismantled by the Germans in 1928, a building modern for its time with a preserved paternoster elevator – a unique technical attraction – was erected in its place.
Pasieka Island is also the cultural heart of Opole – it hosts the famous Amphitheater, where since 1963 the prestigious Polish Song Festival takes place, attracting crowds of music lovers from all over the country. It is also worth visiting the charming Castle Park with the Ice House and the Castle Pond, which enchants in the evenings with a multimedia fountain.
One cannot omit the Song Museum, where everyone can learn the fascinating history of the Polish music scene and the festival itself.
Today Pasieka Island is one of the most beautiful and prestigious villa districts of Opole — a place that combines the richness of history, nature, and culture into a unique whole.
