The Philharmonic is housed in a modern facility located in the very center of the city, right next to the picturesque Młynówka Canal. The repertoire will satisfy both music lovers with sophisticated tastes, focusing on classical music, and those who are looking for something lighter: jazz, operetta or popular music, but in a great edition. The Opole Philharmonic was formally established in 1972. But much earlier, in 1947, the first professional orchestra was established in Opole: the Small Symphony Orchestra. In 1952, it was transformed into the Opole Symphony Orchestra, and five years later into the State Symphony Orchestra in Opole. In 1969, it was given the name of Józef Elsner - a Polish composer of German descent, Fryderyk Chopin's teacher. The facility hosts many world-famous conductors, composers and soloists, and the Opole Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra participates in prestigious cultural events in Poland and abroad. In the expanded building of the Philharmonic, there is an atmospheric Music Club, where you can drink good coffee and feel the soothing influence of music.
